Just open Adobe.com from your Chrome Browser and click on Get Adobe Flash Player button on the home page.

Install Adobe Flash Player using "APT for Ubuntu 9.04"

Refresh the Youtube page... there you go...

Thanks, very detailed and easy to follow instructions. My locations were the same as yours - even went to the folders to check. So doing it was easy. However I am using Ubuntu 9.10 and still get no sound, even after rebooting. So it's back to the drawing board for me.

Hi - this was very helpful thanks.  I had done extensive surfing and tried several solutions to try and get flash player working on Firefox, all to no avail.  Then I saw this article.  So following this I have simply added Chrome to my ubuntu and then followed the steps you suggest.  I didn't have the flash plugin and the steps that you suggest above worked superbly.  Upshot, I now have Chrome, which seems to be tons faster than Firefox, and Flash player works on it.  Brilliant.  For anyone interested I had a Packard Bell Easy Note old laptop, and removed windows and put ubuntu on it.  Worked a treat first time round, laptop is considerably more reliable now (doesn't freeze) wireless networking was a bit tricky to get working but have done so (secret appears to be to deny the keyring).  Have been a linux fan ever since having Xandros on an eee pc netbook.

I have a question to all of you. How can I uninstall flashplayer from ubuntu 9.04.

I have been trying unsuccessfully to get flash to work with Chromium for several days. I also have Crossover Office Professional installed on this box. When I do an about:plugins, I can see that there are two flash plugins that are activated. The first one in the list is associated with Crossover, and the path to it I'm sure is invalid.

Has anyone else had this issue? Not sure what to do, it would be a huge hassle to uninstall Crossover. Can plugins be deactivated individually somehow?

I suggest, instead of copying the lib, to ma ke a symlink. With this whenever the .so is updated it will be also updated for Google Chrome.

sudo ln -s /usr/lib/flashplugin-installer/libflashplayer.so /opt/google/chrome/plugins/libflashplayer.so

Launching Chromium by the command

"google-chrome --enable-plugins" (or " chromium-browser --enable-plugins" depending on the installed version)

usually suffices!

Oh hi there, I was so happy to finally come across an online tutorial that walked me though installing something that actually worked from start to finish that I had to send a big kudos to the author of this 'how to'. I have used microsoft all of my life and I'm slowly learning linux....which can be very confusing. This how-to guide was flawless and written in easy to understand terms and I really do thank the team or person who created this. I would certainly hope you would post more 'how to' articles about linux/ubuntu.

 Right now I'm trying to figure how to get a IRC client and my Ubuntu system to play DVD's. If you know of any really good tutorials please pass them along.

What if some1 run the browser with ALT+F2 (for example I do) ?

Then is it possible to setup the "--enable-plugins" option to be executed automatically along with gthe "google-chrome" command or I should keep writing it after the command every time I like to run it ?

could be the directory

 /opt/google/chrome

 is not present so modify the command in this way

 sudo mkdir -p /opt/google/chrome/plugins

 avoid the problem
